It has been known that YES there is a very close relation that exists between the nutritional status as well as the capabilities of immune response to pathogens.
The immune system is nothing but a collective terms for all the mechanisms that are going inside are our body. These mechanisms are responsible for making it possible for us to identify and kill pathogens and tumor cells.
The immune system acts as our defense mechanism against all these pathogens. We all know that pathogens like virus, bacteria, parasites, cancer cells, some poisonous particles can cause disease. Without the the presence of an efficient immune system, it is a fact that the body cannot defend itself against these diseases.
Relationship of Immunity and supplements
the fact has been confirmed that a lot of vitamins and supplements (immune supplements) are capable not only enhancing the power of our immune system, but of also fighting against its aging.
Various studies have shown that malnourished people are at the end of a great risk factor of coming in contact with infectious diseases. It is all because of the fact that they have an inadequate immune response.
A malnourished immune system is not capable of protecting the body in a proper way. The chances of getting diseases like HIV, cancer and tuberculosis, increases because of
the presence of a weak immune system. Inadequate amount of protein has a negative effect on the immune system as well.
According to various studies, people who suffer from HIV /AIDS, have a low concentration of certain vitamins, especially vitamins A, B6, B12, C, E and folate in their body. This means that all these supplements are responsible for increasing your immune system.
Let us take the examples of few supplements:
Vitamin A – The presence of vitamin A enhances the function of epithelial cells, that are very useful in maintaining the structure of tissues. It is a fact that on this same vitamin A depend the production of B cells and T.
B Complex - B12 helps in enhancing the rate of T cells and NK cell activity in the body.
Vitamin B12 along with folate is involved in the production of genetic material.
Vitamin C – studies have shown that by intaking mega dose of vitamin C supplementation in healthy individuals enhances both cellular and humoral immunity
Vitamin E - Vitamin E plays as very vital role in working as an antioxidant in cell membranes. This quality of the vitamin has earned it the name of "anti-viral. According to the various studies that were conducted on animals, it has been shown that if both vitamin A as well as vitamin E are taken together,
then it helps in the improvement of the function of neutrophils that further helps in destroying infectious agents.
