Once, our society used to have a view that disabled people are dependent, they are unable to contribute to society. Things have changed now. Today, disabled persons, especially I would like to talk about the women in wheelchairs, that they have really started to destroy this stigmatized perception with the help of their amazing accomplishments. Furthermore, the wheelchairs are designed in such a way as to accent the incredible beauty and strength of these women.

Last year, New York designers held a fashion show that was specifically organized to display these chairs. The show was hosted by four women who were the ones involved in the foundation of  “Discovery For Design,” that is a non-profit organization which is dedicated for the sole cause of   improving the lives of women who rely on wheelchairs.

Marilyn Hamilton, who was one of the host, is also involved in the invention of the Quickie wheelchair. The other three hosts were actually sports, arts, and business dynamos who had already experienced traumatic injuries in their lives which made them land on the wheelchairs.

This fashion show
was organized for the display of these stylish wheelchairs. It was also devoted to the  fashionably designed clothing ensembles that were specifically crafted in order to flatter women who spend much of their time sitting on these wheelchairs.

The "Roll" Models for the show were those four women who were selected from all over the country. These women were disabled but they did not lag behind in demonstrating inspirational strength and perseverance despite the fact that they suffered from various health problems or accidents.

Jenny Smith, who was amongst those four women, had an accident while she was indulged in  gymnastics. She suffered from a spinal cord injury, which happened some 17 years ago. But the accident did not restricted her from driving, graduating from the college with a Master's Degree, or working in a big company. The lady has delivered more than 1000 wheelchairs to disabled people in developing countries.

On the other hand, Melissa Holley was going to her institution, when an auto accident resulted in her spinal cord injury.
She has attended a lot of events as well as campaigns in order to bring an experimental spinal cord treatment procedure to the United States.
