Lung Cancer
In simple words, when the abnormal cells of our body start to reproduce and attack the tissues in the lung, lung cancer occurs.
Normally what happens, a cell will grow, divide, proliferate and meeting all the needs of your body, it will die. But, as one or more of these cells begin to reproduce, without performing their normal purpose, they tend to form a tumor or a cancer. If it is not properly diagnosed, they continue their reproduction and slowly spread to the tissues in the lung and then into the other vital organs of the body.
Smoking is one of the primary cause of lung cancer. Researches found that cigarette smoke is the major cause behind most forms of lung cancer. It happens because, during the smoking, the smoker inhales the carcinogens. However, there is an another form of lung cancer, called mesothelioma, that results from exposure to Beyond asbestos.
Here are some of the symptoms of lung cancer:
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath as well as wheezing (dyspnoea)
- A cough that hard to go and even gets worse day by day
- Frequent problems with pneumonia or bronchitis
- Regular and constant chest pain
- Coughing out blood (bloody sputum) (haemoptysis)
- Neck and face swelling
- Frequent fever
- Loss of appetite and weight loss (anorexia)
- Hoarse voice
- Changes in shape of the fingertips
- Repeated bouts of pneumonia
- Enlargement of glands in the upper chest and lower neck
However, it is wrong to assume that you have lung cancer, if any one or more of thses symptoms occur. Thus, keep going to your physician for regular check-up of your body.
The different forms of lung cancer are:
The small cell lung cancer and non-small cell cancer are the two primary forms of lung cancer. I short they are known as SCLC and NSCLC respectively.
Non-small cell cancer is occurred mostly. It accounted for about 80 percent of the diagnosed lung cancer cases. This form of lung cancer can also be categorized into squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinomas and large cell carcinomas. The worst part is that these three can appear together at a time in one person.
Small cell lung cancer is not that common like the NSCLC. But, this is even more dangerous, as it is aggressive and grows fast. SCLC is primarily resulted from smoking. The worst fact about this form of lung cancer is that most of the time it doesn't get detected until the cancer is already widespread throughout the body.
As we call prevention is better than cure. Lung cancer can be prevented by avoiding the tobacco. The best way to keep the disease at its bay is to never start smoking in the first place. If you are already a smoker, it's never too late. You can diminish the risk of lung cancer by decreasing the intake of tobacco.
