When the tissues covering the brain and muscles cause pain, headaches happen. Even though the brain can't feel the pain but the network of nerve fibers in the tissues can sense the pain and aching. Headaches can be chronic, occasional or reoccurring. If the headaches are too severe it can disrupt daily life as well.
Tension headaches are those headaches that are results from stress, sneezing, coughing, fever, and muscle tension. Some of its common symptoms are anxiety, depression, arthritis, and joint and bone disorders. This condition can lasts for about few weeks to even months. Although they are temporary in nature they are caused by the contracting muscles in the neck, scalp and face.
At times, a simple hot shower, a massage, or and aspirin can help treat tension headaches. Antidepressants or prescription medication can be helpful too. Even relaxation training and herbal supplements are some other means of relief.
Migraines is one of the most popular forms of headache present today. Some of the common symptoms of migraines are blurred vision, upset
stomachs, weakness in limbs, tingling in the face and hands, and speech difficulty. It mostly lasts for about 3 to 4 days and normally felt in the forehead, temple, ear, jaw, or around the eye.
To prevent migraines from occurring some of the basic ways are stress reduction, elimination of certain foods, and regular exercise. For quick relief from the pain place cold compresses to the head. Pressing on the area of the pain may help as well.
Some types of headache also result from fever. Continuous exposure to certain chemicals can cause toxic headaches. Even pneumonia, mumps, and measles result in a toxic headache.
If the muscles on the head and neck are pulled or strained can result in traction headaches. For example, squinting your eyes when you need to be wearing glasses or bifocals.
Inflammation headaches usually develop from meningitis, sinuses, spine, neck, ear, and teeth problems. Generally, hypertension and brain tumors develop inflammation headaches.
Although, consulting a doctor is not necessary for every headache, because sometimes skipping a meal and eating will be a quick and simple fix for it.
