In the past few years, the number of children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has risen drastically. One of the best ways to get rid of this disorder is to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
Children below the age of seven are usually affected by this disorder. Some of the common signs of ADHD in children include hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity. Since, most children are usually hyperactive and inattentive at times it becomes too difficult to identify tell if the child really has ADHD. The ADHD signs can be classified into the following three categories:
- Inattentive with insignificant hyperactive-impulsive behavior - The children that fall within this category usually lack the hyperactivity. They seem to be lethargic and sluggish and appear to be always daydreaming. Children in this category mostly find difficulty in concentrating on one particular thing especially when there is activity around them. They also get bored easily if the task is repetitive in nature. Moreover, these children act and display their emotions without thinking about the consequences of their actions.
- Hyperactive-impulsive with insignificant inattention - Children having this type of symptoms are usually very active and find it difficult to sit at one place. They are always on the go, playing, touching, and talking continuously.
- Hyperactive, impulsive, plus inattentive – It is basically a combination of the above two categories. It is one of the most common form of ADHD. These children are basically very restless, often playing with their hands, fingers and feet. They have difficulty behaving especially when they are expected to behave. These children are very impatient and cannot wait for their turn in lines.
These are just some of the common ADHD signs and symptoms. If you find any of these symptoms in your child then consult a doctor at the earliest. Although there is no laboratory test available to determine the presence of ADHD. But a complete psychological and medical evaluation on the child can help the doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.
