Its Now Time For Solid Baby Food
Your little angel will not need anything more than breast milk till at least four months from his / her birth. There will, however, come a time, when breast milk will no longer be sufficient for fulfilling your baby's nutrition needs. Healthy babies will begin to need iron from other food sources by the time they reach the age of six – nine months.
Few infants who are not given solid foods by the age of 9 - 12 months might find it really difficult to accept solid foods. It's a big leap in the development of your child when he / she starts solid foods. It is a sign of growth.
The most appropriate time to start with solid foods is when the baby demonstrates interest in starting the same. Some babies will begin to show interest in solid food when they see it on their parents' plates, when they are as young as 4 months of age. By 5 - 6 months, most babies will try to reach out and grab the food. When the baby starts to reach for food, it's an indication to go ahead and give him some.
Sometimes, it may be a better idea to start food before this age. When a baby shows signs of hunger or once weight gain isn't continuing at the desired rate, it is advisable to give solid foods from as early as 3 months. It may be an option, however, to keep breast feeding and help the baby be less hungry and grow more rapidly.
Research has established that breast fed babies are able to digest solid foods better and more quickly than artificially fed babies because the breast milk will be enriched with enzymes, facilitate the digestion process, digesting fats, proteins, and starch.
When the baby begins to consume solid foods at the age of 5 - 6 months, there not much difference what he starts will or what order it is introduced. You should, however, try and strictly avoid spicy foods or highly allergenic foods in the beginning, although if your baby reaches out to some interesting thing on your plate, you should let him / her enjoy.
You must feed your baby with the foods that he / she shows some interest in. Let your baby to enjoy the food and stop worrying too much about the quantity they take in at first, as a considerable part of it may land up on the floor or on their hair anyhow.
