Your eyes are probably one of the most active organs in your body. Apart from the few hours every day when they rest for sleeping, they are actually working from morning till night. And we haven't even begun to talk about the countless blinks each day.

The good news for those suffering from poor eyesight and vision is that because of newer and newer eyesight righting techniques being invented, nowadays it is no big deal for visually impaired people to achieve almost 100% vision. So, even though your eyesight demands it, you need not wear thick glasses and look “uncool” anymore. Today only Doctors or CPA's sport thick glasses.

Contact lenses are a preferable alternative to glasses. This is because glasses have a tendency to slip down, accumulate dirt or fog and generally get in the way when you are trying to do something physically vigorous. Contact lens means that your glasses will no longer jump around while you jump.

If you research carefully, you will find that there are more than one kind of contact lenses available.

The various kinds of lenses are:
  • • Soft contact lenses - These are the most popular and comfortable. That is because they contain ample amount of oxygenated water so that he eye is not irritated. However, do remember that these lenses have pores and be sure to
take them off at night or you risk developing an eye infection.
  • • Hard contact lenses - These are not so popular because they are made of a rather tough material, though they do allow free passage of oxygen into the eye. This ensures that the lenses are easily washable, but uncomfortable to the eyes nonetheless.
  • • Rigid-gas-permeable lenses - If you are suffering from astigmatism, chances are that your doctor will advise you to have these. They allow more free passage of oxygen to the eye.
  • • Extended-wear lenses - These are special kinds of lenses which do not even have to be removed at night. Another advantage of these lenses is that they do not require as much cleaning as the other do. However, due to prolonged use, they might cause the cornea to get infected.
  • • Disposable lenses - They do not get infected easily because they are frequently replaced by new ones. The thinner material and large amount of water ensures that the eyes are comfortable.
Eyeglasses, in contrast can be worn as long as you like, as long as you do not break them. They are needed if you require help with your vision while performing regular chores. From polycarbonate to cheap plastic - the lenses can be made of anything. In fact, an extra layer of padding for protection from the UV rays can be found in some glasses.

Another great thing about glasses are the immense variety of frames to choose from.
