In the past few years, more and more people are attracted towards the natural ways of dealing with panic attacks because most of the traditional ways are either ineffective or cause side effects. Besides, they are very costly over time.
The most commonly used treatments for panic disorder are Anti-anxiety medications (e.g. Valium, Ativan) and antidepressants (e.g. Sinequan, Effexor). Principally, these medication alters the way your body responses to stressful stimuli. Although, these are effective but the side effects can be very unpleasant.
Often, psychotherapy is also used in treating panic attacks. It is an effective method but you'll have to spend a lot of time with the psychotherapist over a long period. Studies show that many patients become non-compliant towards this treatment because of the inconvenience.
The two natural ways to deal with panic attacks are aromatherapy and massage. Under the method of aromatherapy, certain scents or aromas are used to relax, stimulate your mind and energize your body. Another common way to reduce stress is the massage therapy. In this method the muscles are massaged until they become soft and you feel completely relaxed. Your body is less prone towards a panic attack in such a relaxed state.
However, you must know when you're about to have a panic attack to effectively deal with them. The moment you feel an attack coming, you can apply any of the natural ways to either stop it or at least lessen its intensity and duration.
Over the years, certain herbs like Passion Flower, Valerian Root, and Lemon Balm have been identified to treat panic attacks effectively. But some herbs can also result in side effects and cause allergy. Therefore, it's better to consult a doctor before taking any herbs.
