Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a chronic disorder which is very severe in nature and completely disables the brain. If a person is suffering from this disorder, then the symptoms will emerge in the teenage years or early twenties.

The disorder is a form of psychosis. It  is an impairment of thinking in which everything is described in an abnormal manner. It is not very common in children and is hard to recognize in its early phases. The term schizophrenia means split of mindset. The cause of this disorder is not very clear. People who suffer from this disease may hear different kinds of voices that other people don't hear.

These patients hold a strong belief that others are reading their minds. They think that people are controlling their thoughts, or plotting anything bad against them.

People have a misconception that the disease is caused by childhood experiences, poor parenting or lack of willpower in people. But all these things are not true...

The children who suffer from schizophrenia may change slowly as far as their behavior is concerned, with the passing phase of life. The disease affects approximately one percent of the total population of the entire world, making it the most common psychosis.

Disorders like Schizophrenia as well as other mental health disorders have a very strict criteria for treatments.

Time of onset as well as the symptoms are some of the factors that decide as to what kind of treatment should be given. Those treatments that are meant for the disease can relieve many of the disorder's symptoms, but many patients must cope with some residual symptoms throughout their lives. A person who suffers from schizophrenia does not have a "split personality" at all. He will never act in a dangerous way or act violently towards others even when he is in the process of receiving treatment.

Treatment of Schizophrenia

People who suffer from severe symptoms of this disorder may need intensive treatment. The treatment may even include hospitalization for a longer period of time.

Antipsychotic or neuroleptic medications work best in terms of modifying the chemicals that are present in the brain. These treatments are also used to control the symptoms of the illness.

Psychotherapy forms a very good form of treatment. This treatment is not only supportive in nature but focus on a particular problem only.

If the patient becomes depressed, then it becomes really vital to add an antidepressant in the medication.

Cognitive therapy plays a very important role in terms of helping the patient to know about different  ways of coping with all the unnecessary  thoughts and situations. This helps in reducing the stress level.

Patients who do not have any kind of support from their families or friends, may be helped by intensive case management programs.
