Medical science says that viral particles that penetrate the skin and mucosal surfaces through microscopic abrasion between genital surfaces during sexual contact as the main cause of having genital warts. Once the cells are invaded by HPV, it may take months or even years to appear the first symptom. Modern scientific treatments to cure genital warts aim at professional approach of applying topical immune response creams, anti-mitotic solutions, electric or laser cauterization (burning) and liquid nitrogen cryosurgery (freezing). These treatments can remove the symptoms, but are not that effective in removing the HPV virus. Thus, there are chances to reoccur the disease.
According to traditional theories, the virus remains in the body of the affected person for a lifetime. But, new studies using sensitive DNA techniques have shown that through immunological response, the virus can either be cleared or suppressed to certain extend.
