Diagnosis of the Disease

Various changes in the texture of skin and nail, along with other accompanying arthritic symptoms are the hallmarks of psoriatic arthritis.

Sometimes X rays are conducted and they may show characteristic damage to the larger joints on any part of the body. It may also show a fusion of the joints at the ends of the fingers and toes.

Psoriatic Arthritis Treatment

A lot of treatment plans are crafted in order to reduce inflammation in the joints. There are several treatments that are also designed to reduce pain in the joints as well as to prevent further damage.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is a very useful drug that is are used to control the pain and swelling that are caused by the arthritis.

If the problem is severe, then there are chances that the doctor may inject steroids directly into affected joints. Other medication, like methotrexate and an antimalarial drug known as hydroxychloroquine, are also used in the medication process.

If the disorder is really severe, then treatments like corticosteroid injections are injected into the joints or injections of gold salts are implemented for patients who are suffering from more destructive joint damage. Surgery may be necessary in severe cases.

Some common drugs that are used in the treatment are::

- COX-2 Inhibitors

- NSAIDs

- Pain medication or analgesics

- Corticosteroids

- DMARDs

- Biologic response modifiers or biologies
