Nowadays, herb treatments are offered as an alternative to gallbladder surgery. Although, more than 500,000 gallbladder surgeries takes place a year in America alone. But, the herbal therapy is slowly becoming more and more popular. With these treatments thousands will be able to painlessly pass their stones. Today, even some of the doctors recommend this alternative treatment to gallbladder surgery. One of the main reasons behind such change is the fact that earlier many doctors did not think gallbladder as an important organ by the body. For example, patients who removed their gallbladder were more likely to be diagnosed with bowel and colon cancers.

In the recent decades, researches in gallstones has been growing by leaps and bounds. These are some of the popular herbs that can help you to both treat and prevent gallstones.
  1. 1. Milk thistle – It is a liver tonic. One of the primary roles of this tonic is to cleanse the liver and simulate bile production. In some studies, the silymarin one of the main ingredients in milk thistle was shown to significantly reduce cholesterol levels in bile. 600 mg of milk thistle extract per day is the recommended amount of silymarin.
  2. 2. Safflower Seed Oil – It is another alternative treatment for gallstone patients. This treatment is known to stimulate the gallbladder and help pass lodged gallstones. Various studies have shown that this oil when combined with essential fatty acids is very effective at eliminating toxic build up in the gallbladder. Safflower seed oil should be taken 2 teaspoon twice a day.
  3. 3. Lipotropic combination – It is basically the combination of many herbal supplements. It has been popular among patients because it's a safe and effective remedy to prevent and/or minimize gallstones. 200 mg of capsule milk thistle, 400 mg of capsule dandelion root, 1200 mg lecithin caplet, 1 capsule peppermint oil, and 2 teaspoons psyllium husks powder is the recommended amount of this combination.
