Amputated Legs- Fight It!

My Dad's friend lost both his legs in the second world war. He was a soldier and was fighting in Italy, near Messina, when him and two friends stepped on an anti-personnel mine.

His situation was such that he had one leg off at the knee, and the other leg was placed above the knee, about mid-thigh.

A couple of days later, in hospital, he realized that he had two options: either make the best of what life had given him, or feel sorry for himself. He decided to make the best of his life.

He married, had kids, drove a plane, built his children a treehouse which was almost 4metres up a tree, did swimming, got a job at a timber importer, took the family for vacation, was an elder in the church, so he took the responsibility of running their finances, donated blood, and serviced his own vehicle.

No one could have swapped him for any other able bodied man. He was too perfect.

So if you feel that you too are in the same condition, I just want to tell you - the sky's the limit. You have the potential to act in a good manner in the world -- and like my Dad's friend, you can use, you can turn your disability into your power. My Dad's friend had a hood. This enabled him park his car anywhere for free!

If you are suffering from this kind of disability, you can pull people's legs, have jokes with them, and that too in the most reckless way, and get away with it!

Very few people will come across those people who have no legs - it makes them look like the worst type of bully.

I've seen many-a-times that my Dad's friend is dealing with aggressive drunks, and they never dare to touch him.

His attitude is of a kind that he always looks for the good in other people.

So you should not loose hope as there are a lot of amazing things that you can do without legs.

Humor helps a lot, specially in these kinds of circumstances. My Dad's friend liked a joke that was about about a guy who had 3 eyes, but had no arms and one leg and he was standing at the bus stop.

The bus driver says to him "Hey, you look 'armless; hop on!"

the guy laughed at his mock. So the main thing is that if you can laugh at yourself and see the funny side the situations, then you will find that they are easier to bear.

So you must decide to make the best of life. Remember that life comes only once. You should be thankful to God that after all the mis happenings, you have lost a leg and are living alive in this world. You still can enjoy the delicacies of this world. So you should know that life can still be a whole lot of fun!
