To understand constipation, it becomes immensely important for all of us to understand as to how our digestive system works. When we eat, food enters our stomach where it gets grounds up so it can be digested. The grounded food then enters the small intestine where nutrients are extracted. The liquid food then moves to the colon, where water is removed, and formation of stool happens. If the quantity of water that has been extracted from food is high, then the stool can become hard and difficult to pass leaving you constipated.

Constipation Prevention and Treatment
  1. The intake of high fiber diet should be high in the food. The diet should be made up of lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. If it is not possible to include these things in diet, then you can implement the use of dietary fiber supplement such as psyllium hulls, Natures Sunshine's Nature's Three or their Irritable Bowel Fiber into your daily health routine.
  2. Dietary fiber holds water and that is why the stool remains soft.
  3. If it becomes impossible to include these things in your diet, then try going for Chitosan (a form of dietary fiber) along with vitamin C. The chitosan is helpful in binding fats from the foods we eat . This helps in making the stool soft and smooth.
  4. Drink plenty of water, when you are indulged in the process of eating  loads of  supplemental fiber.
  5. You can also include some dried prunes in your diet or drink some prune juice. In addition to adding fiber, prunes have a mild laxative effect.
  6. In this condition, avoid the intake of sugar and other processed foods.
  7. Adopt a routi8ne of regular exercise programs to help promote normal bowel movements.
  8. If your doctor advice you that the main cause of your constipation is allergy, then try an elimination diet that would assist you in identifying as to what may be triggering your body and causing your colon to contract.
  9. Meditate, do yoga, go for a walk. You must indulge in those activities that  would allow you to reduce your stress levels and help your body to relax. This can help relax your colon also.
  10. Get a colonic is the problem gets severe.
