Here are some of the tips for you to keep your fat level low in your cooking habits:
- Try to avoid taking butter or oil. It is always recommended to go for nonstick cooking spray. However, you can opt for liquid oils over solid fats. Olive Oil is recommended by experts for the cooking purpose.
- For non-vegetarians, it is advised that they eat extra-lean meat or skinless chicken breasts to make the dishes.
- You should trim all visible fat from the meat, by which you can ensure a low-fat recipe for you.
- Try to avoid fried food. Instead, you can grill, broil, bake, braise, steam, poach, slow-cook and microwave foods.
- Make a point to drain fat from cooked meats and use tissue paper to blot them.
- Includevegetables, beans or whole grains in your diet in order to replace meat content of snacks like burgers, meatloaf, hotdogs etc.
- Avoid coating chicken and fish in batter. Instead, use breadcrumbs to coat them or you can bake them rather than frying them.
- If possible, use chicken or turkey sausages instead of pork or beef sausages.
- Try to avoid regular bacon, and if you want go for Canadian bacon or turkey bacon.
- Add one or two egg whites per person in egg dishes or cakes, in order to cut excess fat in the recipes. You can also completely cut down the fat content by using egg substitute for the dish.
- You can substitute two meat dishes each week for fish or vegetarian meals.
- Make use of fat-free milk or fat-free chicken in oder to make mashed potatoes.
