Weight loss surgery may be suitable for you, if you are having the following mentioned symptoms:
  • If you are 100 pounds overweight, you need a weight loss surgery. So, check your weight and consult with your doctor.
  • If your BMI (body mass index) is 40 or more than that, you may require a weight loss surgery.

  • If you have certain co-morbidities like hypertension, diabetes, or sleep apnea.
  • If you have tried for more than 4 years to lose weight, but you have been unsuccessful in that.
  • If you are willing to follow the prescribed diet and do a lot of exercise.
Now, when is weight loss surgery not recommended?

Here are a number of points that say who all are not fit for having a weight loss surgery, even though they meet the weight guidelines. Such patients include:
  • Patients who are suffering from severe psychiatric illnesses.
  • Anyone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol.
  • Certain medical conditions that make weight loss surgery inadvisable.
  • Cancer patients who are not in remission.
  • Patients who are over the age of 65, although this is not a necessary  disqualification. They can perform Yoga exercises in order to loss weight.
  • Women who are planning to have child within one year or are currently pregnant.
Before heading for weight loss surgery, it is recommended that you should go through extensive medical and psychological testing to ensure that you meet the guidelines or an eligible candidate for successful weight loss surgery. Your pre-surgery tests should include:
  • Laboratory testing
  • Upper GI.
  • EKG
  • Psychiatric interview and testing
