Macular degeneration, or AMD or ARMD (age-related macular degeneration), is one of the main causes of vision loss and blindness in aged people. Because older people represent a greater portion of the total population, vision loss from macular degeneration which forms one of the major eye problems these days.

AMD is caused by the degeneration of the macula, which forms the portion of the retina and is majorly responsible for the sharp, central vision that is required for tasks like reading, driving, etc. However, the cenral vision loss may occur in this case  because of the macula that degenerates as a result of that.

Symptoms In Adults
  • Double vision
  • Difficulty reading and doing extreme close-up tasks, such as sewing, working on computer etc.
  • Problems with glare from lamps or the sun
  • Halos around lights is one of the most critical symptom of this disease.
  • White spot or cloudy spot in the vision.
  • Trouble seeing things to your side
  • Changes in the way you differentiate various colors.
  • Impaired vision at night, especially when you are involved in driving, caused by effects of bright light
  • Frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription

Warning Signs in Children
  • Squinting, closing or covering one eye
  • Developmental delays
  • Family history of "lazy eye" or "thick glasses"
  • A disease that affects the whole body (such as diabetes, sickle cell or HIV)
  • Constantly holding materials close to the face
  • Tilting the head to one side
  • Rubbing eyes repeatedly
  • One or both eyes turn in or out
  • Redness or tearing in eyes
  • Premature birth
