Diabetes affects all age groups and the disease does not even spare children. Diabetes in children is increasing at a very high pace and needs a lot of concern to look after the whole matter with extreme care.

Diabetes affects all age groups and the disease does not even spare children. Diabetes in children is increasing at a very high pace and needs a lot of concern to look after the whole matter with extreme care.
It is not necessary that diabetes in children is linked with the increase in weight. In many children below fifteen years, there are chances that the disease appears suddenly.

It is important to conduct early diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in children and the motto of this treatment is to achieve normal physical, mental and emotional growth of every person who suffers from diabetes, including children.
The starting stage of diabetes in children is acute or sub-acute. The course of the disease varies from few hours and it can take to several weeks also.

Some of the main symptoms of diabetes in children may include:
  • Passage of excess urine. This can even lead to bed-wetting and thirst. At night, child tends to ask for water again and again. These are the initial symptoms.
  • There are chances that the child develops at a slower pace than other children and most of the times shows a lazy attitude in front of everyone, while getting indulged in any kind of task.
  • Abdominal pain, vomiting, dehydration and acidosis are some of the most common symptoms of the disease.
  • The diabetic child loses weight and start looking very lean gradually.
  • He is prone to respiratory diseases as well as other disorders such as infections and allergy to certain particles.
  • Toxins gets build-up in the blood and make it acidic (keto-acidosis).
  • Breath is sweet smelling and skin and tongue tend to become dry with the passage of time.
  • The child feels drowsy and tired every time.
  • Blood Pressure tends to get low, pulse becomes weak and there are chances that the child may go into a semi-conscious or unconscious state in the later part of the disease.
