Use Hypnotherapy and Placebos for Treating Hypochondria
A person who is suffering from hypochondria has a preoccupying fear, or we can say the person suffers from an unusual phobia of having a serious illness. This conviction persists despite providing the concerned person with proper medical evaluation and reassurance of good health.
People who are suffering from hypochondria are obsessed with bodily functions. They have some kind of psychological phobia that always persists in their minds and that is why they try to interpret normal sensations (such as heart beats, sweating, and bowel movements) or minor abnormalities (such as a runny nose, a small sore, or slightly swollen lymph nodes) and try to show that they are suffering from severe problems. But in reality, that is not the case.
People who are suffering from hypochondria tend to focus on vague physical sensations, like "a sore liver" or "tired veins." they always tend to feel a sense of illness in them. One of the common forms of this phobia involves a preoccupation with a single organ (it can bee lungs) or disease (for example, cancer). If the so called patient is treated with negative diagnostic examinations, then it will do little to decrease a patient's anxiety about his or her health.
The concerned part is that the person will continue to seek medical attention. That will further adds to the complication as the phobia will not decrease, rather increase!
Hypochondria is usually treated by a primary care physician, who may consult with a psychiatrist. The first step is to make sure there is no physical basis for symptoms, such as illness, injury, medication use, or substance abuse.
These days, the therapy of Yoga is getting very popular day by day. Indulge the concerned person in meditation and yoga exercises, along with certain pranayam exercises to minimize the phobia!
Results have shown that Yoga has proved effective in treating the disorder in a perfect way. The chances lies between 20% to 100%!
I remember one case, when my friend's wife was suffering from hypochondria. What my friend did was he juts gave her two sugar pills (placebos) and gave them a name (some unusual name of a medicine) and explained that they would help to reduce her present symptoms or clear them completely. And guess what. It worked. So the conclusion is that hypochondria is not a disease and it can be dealt by keep the psychological thinking of the patient calm and relaxed.
